The Church of Scientology Atlanta is referred to by Scientologists as an "Ideal Org". This term is used to refer to a place where Scientological services are offered. The Atlanta Ideal Org was opened in April of 2016 and is located in Sandy Springs, GA. The building is a 45,000 square foot mansion, featuring a very modern interior design. Although very tempting, I respected their wishes and did not take photographs of this. The church features an information center, a space dedicated to Scientology auditing (spiritual counseling), several seminar rooms, and classrooms. Also, the Atlanta Ideal Org offers a range of spiritual services including Sunday sermons and events open to members of every religion.
My visit to the Church of Scientology Atlanta was an overall pleasant experience. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by three friendly male faces that were eager to show my friends (not classmates) and me around. Afterward, we began our self-guided tour around the information center. Walking through the displays in the information center, one may get the feeling that a Scientologist strives to be the perfect human being. This feeling of perfectionism was evident in the way that each display had an answer for every problem: communication, marital issues, understanding, and so forth. From these displays, it seems that Scientologists approach the majority of life's obstacles from a logic-only, everything-is-solvable perspective. This was reiterated by one guide who explained "unlike other religions, we don't wait for a higher being to do something for us, we are about DOING." |
